Step 3: Change the graph interval
Previous Topic  Next Topic

At this point, we are interested only in the Size: Width & Height values, but feel free to try out the other options in this box to see what happens to the graph.  Note that changing the baseline value will not change the graph itself. It changes the position of the text around (left and right of) the graph.  See Chapter 6 for more details.

The default Width and Height is 2.5".  Subtract .5" for the axes arrows and we are left with 2" for tick display.  Since the default number of Ticks per inch is 5, we have 10 ticks total.

Notice that default Scale (units per tick) is 1 (and the Ticks per inch is 5 as we said).

           10 ticks × 1 unit per tick = 10 units.

Since by default the set graph center is (0,0), this translates to an interval of (-5,5).

All of this explanation is to illustrate the many ways that the graph can be changed according to our needs.  Sometimes, many options make a simple change more difficult to make quickly.  But EVTG has made one simple change very easy.

To change our graph from (-5,5) to (-10,10) we need only to click on Zoom Out.

10 ticks × 2 unit per tick = 20 units, which gives us an interval of (-10,10).

Because we shifted this dialog box up and to the right, you should be able to see that the graph has now changed to the interval (-10,10).

A word of caution dont click on Clear unless you are certain that you do not want to have axes information.  You cannot Cancel this action. (See Part J: Troubleshooting below to see what happens with Clear and how to fix this.)
