I.I. Troubleshooting
Previous Topic  Next Topic

At the end of each chapter we will try to anticipate some of the problems that might occur as you work.

Here are three problems you may encounter.

Read on to see what to do...

? What should I do if I need to stop working before reaching the end of the chapter?

Exiting before completing part C:

We recommend that you finish parts A-C before stopping. If you cannot, we recommend that you exit ExamView without saving and start again from the beginning. To do this:

1. If you are in the Question Bank Editor, i.e. before Part B, Step 3.

The following Caution dialog box will open.

2. If the Question/Answer page is open.

The following Caution dialog box will open.

Continue with 1 above (Click on the File menu, then on Exit…)

3. If the Edit Algorithms Definitions box is open –

4. If the New Algorithm box is open

Exiting after completing part C

At the end of each of parts C, D, E, F and G you will be saving your work. This means that you can stop at the end of any of these parts without losing any of your work, and then start again by opening your file.

1. If you are at the end of a part, then you have just saved your work.

2. If you are in the middle of a part and have to quit, follow the directions given above to exit without saving. You will lose the work from that part.

Opening your Question bank/Test

?  What should I do if I did not type one of the titles correctly?

The Title dialog box will open and you can make corrections.

(Note that if you start typing immediately, the current title will be erased! To edit, first click where you want to make a change.)

?  What should I do if I did not type one of the file names correctly?

Unless this really bothers you and you are familiar with file manipulation using the Microsoft Windows program My Computer or Windows Explorer, we recommend that you do nothing!

1. You can save your file under a different file name.

However, if you do this, you must delete the old file from within Windows.

This is because ExamView Test Generator works with bank and test names – not file names. So if you do not delete the old file, ExamView Test Generator will list two banks (or two tests) with the same name and you will not be able to tell them apart! To save under a different file name:

The Save As dialog box will open as in Part C, Step 6.

You can now delete your old file from within Windows.

or

2. If ExamView is not open, you can rename your file from within Windows using the program My Computer. To do this your file must be closed. So, you must first exit ExamView Test Generator (see Part H above).

By default,  EVTG banks are in the folder: C:\Program Files\ExamView\Banks

and EVTG tests are in the folder: C:\Program Files\ExamView\Tests

(We will show you how to change this in a later chapter...)
